i think people often forget that humans are animals as well, so the fact that there's another world where there are beings like you that exist shouldn't be so surprising considering what we are faced with here.

when miwako was a child i didn't have any friends in my class because even then i was small and too different and the others didn't like that. so i spent a lot of time watching instead of talking, because it was the safest thing to do.
